I'm seven. Should I be lifting weights? If so, how many pounds?

Good question, Makayla. Weight training can be a little tricky for kids your age. But that doesn't mean you can't increase your muscular strength. Kids can get stronger by using their own body weight. Push-ups, wall-sits, and hanging from the monkey bars are examples. But there is something you can do now to prepare yourself for weight training. It's called "proper form." Stand with your feet shoulder width apart, knees slightly bent, shoulders back, and abs tight. Imagine you have weights in your hands, and slowly lift them to your shoulders, bending at the elbows. You can even use cans of soup instead of weights. Practice doing this without wiggling your body or swinging your arms. Remember to breathe too. Pretty soon you'll be so good at proper form you'll be ready to add real weights. Start with 2 pound weights. Have a grown-up act as your "spotter" to help you maintain proper form. Who knows? Maybe you'll get so good at it that you become your parent's spotter!
